3 copies, 2 media types, 1 offsite. We design a backup architecture that follows this standard, scaled to your data volume and recovery time requirements.
Local Backup System
A secondary NAS or direct-attached storage array on your local network, configured to automatically replicate from your primary NAS nightly.
Cloud Archival
We configure and manage cloud backup to AWS S3 Glacier, Backblaze B2, or Wasabi. Automated, encrypted, cost-efficient — and tested to actually restore.
LTO Tape Archive
For studios with large archives, LTO-8 or LTO-9 tape delivers the lowest cost per TB available. We specify the hardware, configure the software, and establish a tape rotation workflow.
Backup Monitoring & Alerting
You should not have to remember to check your backups. We configure automated monitoring with alerting for failed jobs, low capacity, and drive health issues.
Restore Testing
We schedule quarterly restore tests from each backup tier and document the results. An untested backup is not a backup.
Remember
RAID is not a backup.
RAID protects against drive failure. It does not protect against ransomware, accidental deletion, theft, or fire. Every studio needs true backups — separate copies on separate media in separate locations.
